What is Indian Head Massage?

Indian head massage is based on the Ayurvedic system of healing which has been practiced in India for over a thousand years.  Massage has always been an important part of Indian family life.  It is a ritual performed on a daily basis, not only at home within families but often at barbers’ shops and even on street corners.

How will I feel? HOW Does Indian Head Massage Help?

Indian head massage helps increase joint mobility and flexibility in the neck and shoulders, improves blood circulation and lymphatic flow, frees knots of muscular tension, relaxes connective tissue, and aids in the elimination of accumulated toxins and waste products. It is particularly good for reducing the effects of stress and tension, fatigue, insomnia, headaches, migraine and sinusitis.

Who can benefit?

Indian Head Massage is a safe and gentle therapy and is suitable for everyone.  However, some conditions are contra-indicated for treatment and if this is applicable I will advise you during the initial consultation.

A treatment session will last approximately 30 minutes.  Your first appointment, however, will be longer as it will include a confidential discussion about your health and lifestyle during which I will devise a treatment plan for you.

Indian Head Massage is non-invasive; you will remain fully clothed.  You will sit in a massage chair for the treatment.  During the massage I will use a range of different movements including the application of deep kneading and compression movements over your neck, shoulder and scalp areas.  I will also gently stroke and stimulate pressure points on your face.

After the massage has been completed I will ask you to sit quietly for ten minutes.  Different people react in different ways to treatment.  You may experience tiredness or aching muscles due to the release of toxins and the nerve fibres responding to massage.  You may feel relief from stress and muscular tension.  You may feel deeply calm and relaxed, energized and revitalized, alert and better able to concentrate.

In order to get the maximum benefit from your massage it is advisable to increase your intake of water to assist the body in eliminating toxins and to avoid eating a heavy meal after treatment.
